Each year on San Diego Science Day, Dr. Young presents a topic of science or medicine to the morning classes at the Adobe Bluffs elementary school for grades 3 - 5. The students get a up-front, personal presentation from members of the scientific community. The exposure to the sciences in the formative years has a strong influence on guiding students with a science aptitude towards increased exploration in the sciences. In 2005, the topic was drug discovery in neurodegenerative diseases. In 2006, the topic was ophthalmic surgery microscopes and correcting low vision impairments.
